How it all began...

Prior to incorporation on April 15th, 2004, we have partially supported a family in Uganda. Sage, Bliss, my mother Mrs. Sonia Leslie of Placencia, Belize, my husband Michael and I were in Canterbury, England. My Husband, the Rev. Dr. Michael Battle, was teaching a course in Canterbury as part of the Global Anglican Communion Series directed by Richard Marsh.

It was in Canterbury that we met Reverend Helen, an Episcopal priest living and working in Uganda. Reverend Helen and I spoke after I noticed that she seemed very troubled. After talking to her I realized the depth of her troubles; she was worried about her children she had left back home in her village in Uganda, and the danger they were in due to the constant threat of kidnapping of children by the “Sudanese rebels”.

I spoke to my daughter Sage, who was then 3 years old, about the children in Uganda, Africa. As I packed our luggage for our return trip to North Carolina, and struggled to close our suitcase, Sage sat on the bed. She looked at me and said “Mommy, I want to give my clothes to help Africa.”

This gave birth to what is known today as “The BlissfulSage Foundation.” Sage and Bliss now have a little brother, Zion. All three children provide ongoing inspiration for the BlissfulSage Foundation, Inc.
